I’ve headed downtown to the San Diego Velodrome the last several Tuesdays. The weekly races make for a great evening – one of my favorite (and free) pastimes. On the one hand you have some pretty serious cycling enthusiasts who have managed to thoroughly pursue their hobby. And on the other you have a very laid-back atmosphere at the track, down to the variety of hipsters who pedal up on their fixed-gears to watch the cyclists and throw back some beers on a weekday night.
Most of you don’t know about my upcoming trip to Mongolia as part of a Mongol Rally Team. Well, now you can catch up with this wonderful promotional video my team member Ryan put together. You can find the unofficial press release for Team Great Job! (yes, that’s our team name) after the jump. One thing is for sure, I’ll bring back some great photographs!
I have followed the rise of SDNN since their numerous “BETA” releases back in March. I watched with optimism as they professed their commitment to “hyper-local” coverage. I cringed and turned away when a torrent of courtesy photos, some straight from Flickr, told me that they were not interested in funding quality professional photojournalism. In the earlier days, with their front page often dominated by nationalstories from the Associated Press, I strongly questioned whether they really had a commitment to substantive local coverage. It remains to be seen how things will bear for the fledgling network.
