Joshua Tree National Park

Night hike, Joshua Tree National Park.

Happy Mother’s Day

To the leader of the pack, a happy Mother’s Day.

Gourmet street food

Stumble out of a bar in North County San Diego and you might come across Chef Dave, always shuffling and laughing, serving up his macaroni on a stick. I did a double take when I saw grass-fed beef on the menu, and after a bit of chatting him up Chef Dave threw some beef skewers my way (someone had ordered it but left them behind).

Back to Bako

I spent some time in my hometown of Bakersfield, California this week. Every time I visit my parent’s house there seem to be more horses, including but not limited to these three stooges.

My Dad is a Cowboy Singer

This weekend I traveled up to Monterey, CA this weekend to see my dad sing cowboy songs and absorb the strange culture of cowboy poetry and music. People with the most elaborate western clothing you’ve ever seen, accented with brilliant silver and immaculate leather fringe, flooded a convention center in downtown Monterey to listen to cowboys sing about being cowboys.

December in San Diego

I’ve noticed a few people complaining about the cold here in San Diego – it was a frigid 57 degrees yesterday after all. But, I’m sure people elsewhere in the country are more than a bit jealous of our weather.

Tuesday Night Racing at the San Diego Velodrome

I’ve headed downtown to the San Diego Velodrome the last several Tuesdays. The weekly races make for a great evening – one of my favorite (and free) pastimes. On the one hand you have some pretty serious cycling enthusiasts who have managed to thoroughly pursue their hobby. And on the other you have a very laid-back atmosphere at the track, down to the variety of hipsters who pedal up on their fixed-gears to watch the cyclists and throw back some beers on a weekday night.

Social Freegans

An interesting thing about the Freegan movement is the appeal of getting together with like-minded individuals. An hour of dumpster-diving is many times more socially valuable than an hour of grocery shopping in solitude, and can be just as productive food-wise.

The Birth of a Child

I added a new photo story to my website, check it out the audio slideshow here or at www.willparson.com/birth and tell me what you think!
