During an emotional walk down Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach, bystanders were frequently moved to tears and applause, and Nguyen stopped several times for hugs and handshakes. Nguyen, 40, is from Fort Worth, Texas and began the 2,500 mile walk on June 10 at Atlantic Beach in Jacksonville, Florida. His goal was to honor America and those who fight in service.
