The Farmers Insurance Open golf tournament was held the last week of January, 2010 at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California.

The La Jolla Half Marathon was held on April 26, 2009. The 13.1-mile course began at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, passed through scenic Del Mar, Torrey Pines State Reserve, and La Jolla Shores beach before finishing at La Jolla Cove. Course record-holder Nazario Romero was the top finisher.

The 2009 Lakeside Rodeo took place in eastern San Diego County, California on April 25.

The San Diego Derby Dolls were at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, California on November 8, 2008. The all-female roller derby league, founded in 2005, features serious competition among skaters with tongue-in-cheek names such as Anita Battle and Isabelle Ringer.

The San Diego Banked Track All-Stars beat the Mitten Kittens of Michigan in their first home bout on a new banked track.
