Acid Mine Drainage-20120415-0846.jpg
Acid mine drainage from a site near the intersection of Ohio State Route 56 and Carbondale Road in Athens County, Ohio, shows an accumulation of acid-loving algae as well as iron oxide that forms when the highly acidic water seeps from the hillside and rises in pH enough that dissolved minerals start to precipitate out.
